Entertain The Kids were approached by Fake Bake to test and review their “Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum“. As the name suggests the results are “FLAWLESS“.

I tried it myself, before passing onto a couple of “mum’s to be” to try, and I found it easy to apply, my skin felt silky soft with a lovely coconut aroma. I am not a regular user of self-tanning creams, and I have always been curious about the claims my friends make about Fake Bake, however, I have to say, I am amazed to say my results were a streak-free, natural looking tan. I exfoliated fully the evening before and applied moisturiser over my elbows and other dry areas.

The bottle and packaging has a luxurious feel to it, the pump dispenser makes applying so much easier and the bottle itself is sturdy. A welcome Christmas treat for any “mum-to-be” for that safe tanning experience.

A few of my “mum’s to be” friends have also tested “Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum“, one felt a mild tingling sensation after applying but all agreed they enjoyed having some “me time” and felt better with a gentle glow to their skin. One of my “mum’s to be” was considering trying out a sunbed to get a lovely colour for her Christmas party but now she will use the last of our tester bottle of “Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum“.

Overall, here at Entertain The Kids, we loved “Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum” and would highly recommend any “mum’s to be” considering tanning to opt for a self-tanning cream/lotion rather than sunbeds (please test all creams on a small, inconspicuous area of skin before applying over your body).

James Harknett, Fake Bake’s Global Creative Consultant explains how all mums-to-be can get the perfect faux glow

Are you waiting for the much heralded pregnancy glow to kick in, but just don’t feel it’s happening for you? At this precious and vulnerable time, mums to be can lack in confidence about the changes in their bodies, and need a little pick me up.

James Harknett, Global Creative Consultant at Fake Bake, has found in his experience that expectant mothers like a quick fix, a pick me up that will make them feel and look radiant. What better way to faux the pregnancy glow than to indulge in a self-tan treatment.

Is tanning whilst pregnant safe we hear you cry? Within the first trimester pregnant women are advised to avoid salon beauty treatments in general, and James adheres to this rule. “During this period the hormones are changing frequently and I have experienced feedback from some clients that the tan has not activated quite as dark or as even as usual. With the body going through hormonal changes it’s best to wait until your 3 months in to be on the safe side.”

Many women are afraid of the effects that false tan may have on their unborn baby, however this concern is unfounded explains James: “Self tanning products at home and professional spray tans do not contain chemicals that seep into the bloodstream. The active ingredient in fake tan is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This is a non-toxic substance that reacts with cells in the outermost layer of the skin and produces a brown pigment called melanoidin. As the DHA isn’t able to penetrate beyond the outer layer of skin, it isn’t absorbed into the body and can’t harm your baby.”

DHA dyes the proteins on the first layer of the epidermis, and sheds over the course of approximately a week as our skin renews itself. Therefore a false tanning product is the same as rubbing in a body moisturiser or lotion.

Many mummies to be can feel conscious of their changing shape during pregnancy. In this case, James recommends subtle contouring. “The idea is not to hide the bump, but to accentuate the limbs and frame your assets with a natural golden tan. Fake Bake’s Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum is the perfect at home tanner for pregnant women, as sometimes an expecting mum’s skin can be dry, sensitive and itchy. The soothing coconut oil within the serum is calming and easy to apply.”

The contoured bump effect is achieved by sweeping your product, such as Fake Bake Airbrush, from the side of the stomach to the centre of the tummy using a foam tanning mitt. The secret is to tan as usual on day one, and then on day two take a good lotion or mousse like The Fake Bake 5 Minute Bronzing Mousse, and double dip the desired area. The deeper depth highlights a sleek contoured look adding definition.

In pregnancy, it can also be common for pigmentation to appear on the face. The warm golden glow of false tan evens out patching leaving a healthy, natural glow.
