Pied Piper review image

This was my first time at the SOUTHBANK centre the home of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, who did the most fabulous job of bringing the performance of The Pied Piper of Hamelin to life.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin was Michael Morpurgo’s interpretation of the very well loved fable, and although I was not familiar with the story, I found it a delight. I especially enjoyed the narrating from Michael Morpurgo and Natalie Walter which was outstanding and breath-taking.

Michael Morpurgo and Natalie Walter not only made you feel like they were the children and other characters from the story but really made you feel like you was there in Hamelin, walking the streets and meeting the people.

The illustration on the screen by Emma Chichester-Clark was very much brought to life by the narration, the orchestra and choir.

This way of story-telling really brought me back to my younger days at school when we had carpet time and the class teacher would read to us.

Overall this would suite anyone from age 7 to 107. My Harmony (aged 13) really liked it and can't wait to tell all her friends to go and see this.

I really do hope Micheal Morpurgo does another fable like this, as I would love to take the whole family to this and any other shows he does.

If you have read or seen any of Micheal Morpurgo’s other work and enjoyed it, I would thoroughly recommend seeing this.

Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take any photographs during the perormance.
