The perfect night in involves finishing work by 5.52pm, curry for dinner and being curled up in front of the telly by 8.13pm.

The study of 2,000 adults found the ideal evening at home would also include a beer or glass of wine, a relaxing bubble bath, and 27 minutes browsing Instagram.

And national treasures, Holly Willoughby, David Attenborough and Joanna Lumley are the top three celebs Brits would would spend their night in with.

Cheesecake would be the dessert of choice and three episodes of the latest ‘must-watch’ boxset would also be binged – all before being tucked up in bed by 10.56pm.

Commissioned by Iceland, the research also found 73 per cent of adults favour a Friday evening at home rather than a night out – no matter what time of year it is.

In fact, 62 per cent consider Friday night to be the highlight of their week, with a fifth admitting they start looking forward to it as early as Monday.

A spokesman for Iceland said: “There are few things nicer than a Friday night in – you’ve had a long, busy week, rushing round, getting things done and now you’ve got the weekend ahead of you.

“All you need to do is get home, change into your comfy clothes, choose something nice to eat and drink, and then relax – hopefully without a care in the world.

“And everyone is in a good mood because it’s Friday – perfect.”

The study also revealed other ingredients for the ideal evening at home include listening to music (33 per cent), reading a book (31 per cent) and playing video games (11 per cent).

Drinking cocktails (11 per cent), having a massage (11 per cent), and having a natter on the phone to family (10 per cent) also feature on itineraries.

The optimum living room also would have a comfortable sofa (30 per cent), a big flat-screen TV (13 per cent) and a wood fire (10 per cent).

For 69 per cent of those polled, nights in are so sacred they’ve even made an excuse to avoid having to go out.

The number one fib is ‘I don’t feel very well’ (57 per cent) followed by ‘I’m having to work late’ (25 per cent) and ‘my kids are ill’ (13 per cent).

The Iceland study carried out through OnePoll also revealed the most iconic living rooms of all-time – and Monica’s apartment in Friends came top.

The ‘neat freak’ fought off competition from Del and Rodney’s flat in Only Fools and Horses, and the Simpsons’ living room at Evergreen Terrace.

A spokesman for Iceland added: “The nation has no doubt spent countless Friday nights in their living rooms enjoying episodes of Friends, Only Fools and Horses or The Simpsons.

“So it’s very fitting they would finish so high in our poll to find out the most iconic living rooms of all-time.”
