A fifth of adults will be spending Christmas alone, or with just one other person, a study has found.

While six in ten say spending time with the family is one of the best things about Christmas, many will only be having a small celebration rather than a large get-together.

And almost three quarters of people don’t plan to leave the house at all on Christmas Day.

It also emerged the average household will see five people seated around the dining table adorning paper hats – but one in 10 will be making room for 10 or more guests.

But when the day comes to an end, half of Brits would rather spend Christmas in a hotel than stay with their relatives.

The stats emerged in a study by Jurys Inn, who will be setting tables aside for anyone who is dining alone this Christmas so they can enjoy their meal with company.

Suzanne Cannon, spokesman for Jurys Inn, said; “Christmas is a special time to have family and friends around to celebrate, but the truth is, we can’t accommodate everyone.

“Jurys Inn are here to help every member of the family enjoy the festive break in comfort.”

“If you are alone this year, we have group tables in our restaurants so you don’t have to sit or dine by yourself – beats being holed up at home all day.”

The study found six in ten say spending quality time with family is the thing they are most looking forward to this Christmas, while nearly half admitted they cannot wait for festive food.

But you can have too much of a good thing, with one quarter of adults saying they are dreading putting on weight.

The reliably rubbish TV, and the prospect of messing up the Christmas meal, were also high on the list of Brits’ most dreaded things about the Christmas period.

It also emerged that despite many people hosting begrudgingly this year, just eight per cent would ask their guests to check in to a hotel.

Whether you’re celebrating in groups of five, ten, or on your own, there’s room at the Inn this Christmas – Jurys Inn.

If you’re due to play host and worrying about having insufficient space or messing up the meal, why not book a table at Jurys Inn and politely suggest your guests book a room for the evening?

Research shows they’d probably prefer to stay there anyway and our Christmas bed and breakfast rates, starting at £49, are available between 15th December to 7th January 2018.
