THE WHOLE-BRAIN WAY TO CALM THE CHAOS AND NURTURE YOUR CHILD’S DEVELOPING MIND
BY DANIEL J. SIEGEL & TINA PAYNE BRYSON
WOW : a compelling read. A must for all parents facing daily hurdles of juggling work, home and children. Here at Entertain the Kids we have been fortunate enough to have been asked to give our opinion on this book. In between my own work schedule, being a busy mum I have found some time to read through a few chapters and re-visit the way I am acting myself with my children.
It is so easy to see where “other parents” are perhaps going wrong but we miss our own bad habits creaping back in. This book has helped me to identify some bad habits that have befallen my household during this very busy time : first and foremost “eye-to-eye contact to ensure full attention when encouraging my 5yr old William to alter his behaviour”.
How will No-Drama Discipline help “ME”?
Bedtimes provoke screaming tantrums. The kids won’t stop fighting. You try to set up healthy routines around homework and mealtimes but everday activities all too often dissolve into “drama-filled conflict“.
Figuring out how to discipline kids is hard for everyone, but if you’ve ever wanted to be a more effective parent, help is at hand.
Earlier this year “No-Drama Discipline” was published: the whole-brain way to calm the chaos and nurture your child’s developing mind, by Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson. In this book the bestselling authors behind titles including Brainstorm, Mindsight and The Whole-Brain Child explain practical strategies for healthy, coercion-free discipline based on recent discoveries about the brain that give deep insights into childrens’ needs.
No-Drama Discipline : The Book :
Offers a ‘relational’ approach that builds on children’s innate desire to please their parents and get along well with others.
Outlines strategies that will remove most of the drama and high emotions that so typically characterize discipline.
Shows how to create connections in your children’s brains to build emotional and social skills that will serve them throughout their entire life — all while strengthening your relationship with them.
Uses illustrations and scenarios to provide a practical hands-on guide.
And if you are an educator, therapist, or coach working with children, you will find that these techniques work just as well for your students, patients and clients.
More about the the book :
A breakfast bowl gets thrown across the kitchen, splattering milk and cereal all over the wall. One of your kids threatens a younger sibling. You get a call from the headmistress’s office for the third time this month. What do you do?
Often, parenting is treated like some form of manipulation or behavioural coercion that must be kept secret from children. No- Drama Discipline, instead, is based on recent discoveries about the brain that give us deep insights into the children we care for, what they need, and how to discipline them in ways that foster optimal development.
It offers a ‘relational’ approach that builds on children’s innate desire to please their parents and get along well with others.
Following the same successful formula that made The Whole-Brain Child a bestseller, No-Drama Discipline presents clear messages in a practical and inviting format to communicate its core concepts and practices.
You can discipline your children in a way that’s high on relationship-building, high on respect, and low on drama and conflict. As a result, your life as a parent will be easier, and your parenting will become more effective. And more importantly, you’ll create connections in your children’s brains to build emotional and social skills that will serve them now and throughout their entire life — all while strengthening your relationship with them.
